GRASS ROOTS EDUCATION ADVICE & TRAINING (G.R.E.A.T.) |
An Introduction To Countryside Activities. Conservation, Shooting, Hunting, Fishing, Birds of Prey, Ferreting, Docking of Working Dogs. With countryside issues such as these frequently debated by both parliament and the general public, and constantly in the headlines, it became obvious that although sufficient debate is taking place, frustratingly the majority of people involved have a limited knowledge of countryside issues, or are so ill informed that they become biased in their opinion. More needs to be done at a grass roots level, particularly with the younger generations, so that those who will be debating these issues in the future are far better informed and therefore more qualified to be making such life altering, sometimes irreversable decisions. It is their countryside that is being lost, their inheritance. |
Education, Education, Education. The Grass Roots Education Advice and Training committee is made up of volunteers from all walks of life, from gamekeepers, quarry workers, train Drivers and retired OFSTED schools inspectors. We all have one thing in common. A love of the Countryside, Country sports and Conservation, but most importantly the desire to share this with others. Most members have links with various organisations such as the Countryside Alliance, Agricultural Societies, British Association for Shooting and Conservation and Fisheries and Environmental agencies. We come together to pool our knowledge and experience to arrange events locally for educating young people at a grass roots level. With this basic background knowlege we hope that they will then continue their interest in countryside activities and more importantly, be better informed when countryside issues are in the news. |
Schools Days. We have been been Working to educate people, particularly the young in matters related to the countryside for many years. Our most successful tool has been "Schools Days" where up to 150 pupils at a time from different schools throughout North Wales are Invited to a working Country estate where they have a day of hands on activities and instruction. |
Youth Days. A special day of demonstrations and activities for young persons takes place in Rhyl each year. Again a large number of volunteers give their time and expertise to give these youngsters a taste of Countryside activities including, Fishing, Birds of prey , Ferreting, and Gundog demonstrations, as well as trying Archery, Clay pigeon shooting and Airgunning under the expert supervision of qualified trainers. |
Gun Safety and Gun Law Talks in Schools. In order to prevent airgun accidents and to combat the misuse of Airguns and BB Guns which is damaging to the reputation of all shooters. We have an ongoing project with the cooperation of the North Wales Police Schools Liason Team whereby we will visit secondary schools in North Wales as part of the antisocial behavior project, to discuss current gun Law and gun safety with students. The aim is to encourage those with an interest in shooting to do so in a safe enviroment away from public view and preferrably in organised gun clubs where they will receive proper training. |
What would you like to know ? If you have any questions related to the countryside, conservation or countryside activities, we will do our utmost to answer them for you. One purpose of this website is to encourage those fortunate enough to be invited along to our activity days, as well as visitors to the site, to continue their learning in relation to countryside activities and the effects of these on conservation, of both the enviroment and wildlife. A Secure area for schoolchildren and teachers (password protected) is available, to enable them to follow up on activity days and projects. |
